How to use YouTube effectively for marketing

YouTube has a lot to offer you as a marketing platform so you should be making the most of it. It is the second largest search engine in the world as well as having over a billion users, just to put that figure in perspective that is a third of all internet users.

While there is no strict, be all and end all rule that you should be using YouTube in your marketing efforts, there are ways that you can use this tool and be incredibly successful in doing so.

First of all, you need to decide what your ultimate goal is. Without deciding on a goal, you won’t be able to achieve truly anything. Regarding goals you could be: increasing brand awareness, improving your SEO or trying to increase conversions.

If you fall into the trap of attempting to create content that ticks all of these boxes, the chances are that you will end up not properly ticking any of them. Every piece of content you create will achieve a different goal, so the first step is to understand what your goal is.

Once you have thought about your goals, you should then be putting thought into creating your videos. You videos will need to be of interest to your customers otherwise they won’t be achieving anything. The way to make sure your content is of interest to your clients, you should be doing research.

At this stage you should start thinking about using annotations and cards. Annotations are clickable links that you can insert into your videos, and this is a great, effective way to drive people back to your site to help create more leads.

Videos are completely pointless unless people are watching them. One of the best ways to boost your views is to make sure your videos have an interesting and inviting thumbnail. The best thumbnails are the ones that summarise the video in a clear, concise way.
