Meet the Women Behind Distract: Creative, Dedicated and Inspirational

Written by Lauren Thorpe, PR and Content Executive.

To celebrate International Women’s Day this year we’re celebrating the great work of the women of Distract…

Here at Distract, our team is an even 50/50 split of men and women which gives us an incredibly balanced perspective when approaching our digital marketing solutions. But to celebrate International Women’s Day we want to highlight some of our amazing team and how we’re helping #AccelerateAction in Distract…

According to the World Economic Forum, at the current rate of progress it will be 2158 until we reach full gender equality. This has inspired this year’s theme of ‘Accelerate Action’, urging us to make quick and decisive measures to reach this goal much sooner.

Here at Distract, we have plenty of procedures to ensure everybody has a voice and we strive for an equal and balanced work culture. During meetings and strategising, we prioritise everybody having the opportunity to share ideas and give every team member the chance to manage a project to gain crucial leadership skills.

Below you can learn more about the women we have here on the Distract team and their roles in the business.

Debbie Woodliffe, Paid Ads Manager

Debbie joined the Distract team recently and has quickly become the backbone of the group. With more than a decade of experience in the marketing sector, she’s brought valuable knowledge that has helped develop our junior team members.

Debbie has become a mentor and team lead for the other members of Distract, providing support, guidance and leadership to all, no matter their gender. As well as this, she helps organise a lot of the behind the scenes admin that can sometimes be overlooked but is crucial to keep the agency running smoothly.

“Since Debbie started she has been a huge help to the whole team. She quickly became my mentor and has been overseeing my personal development and recommending training to expand the skills I have beyond my role, especially with her expertise in paid social advertising. She’s always happy to brainstorm strategy ideas and help manage and always makes sure we’re not getting overwhelmed with our workloads. Having another woman in a leadership position on the team has made me much more confident to pursue further training opportunities and seek out support for my role.” – Lauren Thorpe, PR and Content Executive.

Amanda Vestergaard, Social Media Executive

Distract has been Amanda’s debut into the marketing sector and since taking on the role of Social Media Executive she has quickly made valuable contributions to both client and company social strategies.

Just a quick look at the Distract profiles shows how dedicated Amanda is to providing excellent social content and her strategies for both organic and paid content are unmatched. She’s eager to learn and expand her skills, always offering to help or shadow the other team members to learn beyond her role.

“Entry level positions always have a steep learning curve and Amanda has adapted to this role admirably as she is always prepared to put in the hard work to learn new skills. I’m looking forward to supporting her and seeing her skillset grow as she advances in her career.” Debbie Woodliffe, Paid Ads Manager.

Lauren Thorpe, PR and Content Executive

After studying at the University of Lincoln, Lauren decided to stay local and begin her marketing career here at Distract. Since starting her role she has adapted quickly to the software and tools we use, providing excellent PR and content support for our clients.

She is also the brains behind the long form content published across the Distract website and has really pushed to implement more creative content ideas moving forward.

“Me and Lauren started our positions here at Distract on the same day. That and having job roles that frequently overlap means we have a close working relationship. I can always count on her for brainstorming sessions or to look over my work for a second opinion.” Amanda Vestergaard, Social Media Executive.

While everyone here at Distract are valuable members of the team, this year’s International Women’s Day gives us an opportunity to highlight the great work the girls of the team have done to make our agency operate at its best potential and showcase how we Accelerate Action.
