It is undeniable that videos are taking over social media, Facebook is getting more daily minutes watched than YouTube, Snapchat’s daily views are now in the billions, and video on Twitter is taking one to one branding to a whole new level. The idea of making videos can be daunting if you have never done it before, but once you’ve given it a try and had a bit of practise you’ll realise anyone can do it.
There’s no denying that YouTube is one of the biggest video sharing sites with roughly 300 hours of video uploaded to the site every minute, but it is on a downward trend. Facebook is in direct competition with 4 daily streams, and that figure is only going to increase. Both Facebook and YouTube are undoubtedly enormous platforms, but Facebook offers a wide variety of features that give it the edge over YouTube.
Facebook not only allows users to share the videos with their friends, but it connects people with content that is more relevant to them due to groups. The best way to make an impact is by sharing your video content on both platforms. If you do upload on both, try to avoid posting the URL on Facebook. If you upload your clip directly, you statistically have a much higher chance of getting more views, just like other sites Facebook wants people to stay on the site as long as possible.
Twitter has also made giant leaps in video; letting users post clips effortlessly. To post, all you need to do is click the reply or post button then the camera and film your message, then post. Takes no longer than posting your average tweet, but it feels that little bit more personal. The personal touch this feature has is unique and memorable selling point, being memorable is the key to success in video marketing.
